11KW Solar Packages
Frequently Asked Questions About 11KW Solar Packages
What's actually included in an OMOSolar 11 kW package, and what will I still need to buy?
Every 11 kW package includes two OMO 5,500W pure sine wave stackable inverters, providing 11,000W of total output, your choice of OMO Stack lithium battery bank, 20 bifacial 550W double-glass solar panels, a full IronRidge roof mount system with rails and fasteners, an MC4 crimper tool set, 500 feet of 10 AWG direct burial PV wire, and 100 feet of 6 AWG AC cabling. That gives you a meaningful head start compared to sourcing each component separately.
You will typically still need a generator for winter backup, breakers and a load center for your home's circuits, conduit for wall and ceiling penetrations, and a licensed electrician for the final connections. If you replace the included roof mount with a ground mount, that will also need to be purchased separately.
Based on our experience designing off-grid systems, customers who contact us before ordering are far less likely to encounter unexpected costs or missing components during installation.
The OMO Stack inverters are stackable. What does that actually mean, and why does it matter?
Stackable means the system is designed to expand as your energy needs grow. Each package includes two 5,500W inverters configured as a 120/240V split-phase system, providing 11,000W of total output. The architecture supports up to six inverter units in parallel, allowing the system to scale to as much as 33,000W without replacing your original inverter equipment.
The same expandability applies to the batteries. Each inverter pair supports up to six 5.12 kWh OMO Stack batteries, providing a maximum of 30.72 kWh of storage per Stack. You can begin with the battery capacity your current budget allows and add more storage later without rebuilding the system.
From what we see in real customer installations, this flexibility is one of the main reasons buyers choose the OMO Stack system over fixed all-in-one units that may be difficult or impossible to expand later.
I'm building in a cold climate. How do the batteries and panels handle freezing temperatures?
The OMO Stack batteries include built-in heating elements, which are especially important in cold climates. LiFePO4 batteries cannot safely accept a charge when the cells are below freezing, so without internal heating, your solar panels could be producing energy in the morning with nowhere safe to store it. The built-in heaters help keep the battery cells within a safe charging range automatically. Configuration may vary, so confirm this feature with your unit's current specification sheet.
The 550W bifacial double-glass solar panels carry a 5,400 Pa snow-load rating and are designed to withstand heavy snow accumulation without structural damage. However, panels covered by snow will temporarily stop producing power until the snow slides off or is removed.
A steeper roof or mounting angle can help panels shed snow naturally and capture more low-angle winter sunlight. Shallower installations may require manual clearing after heavy storms. Customers in northern climates often tell us that choosing the right tilt angle made a bigger difference than they initially expected.
Can this system run completely without a generator, or is backup power always necessary?
In sun-rich areas such as the Southwest, Southeast, and Texas, a properly designed 11 kW system with approximately 20 to 25 kWh of battery storage may support a modest household through most days of the year. Some customers in these regions go entire seasons without needing to start their generator.
In the northern United States, winter changes the calculation. Solar production may fall to approximately 30% to 40% of summer output, and several consecutive cloudy days are more common. In these climates, a generator should generally be treated as part of the system design rather than an optional emergency accessory.
The OMO Stack inverters include a 63A generator input that can support battery charging and household loads, either automatically or manually depending on your setup. A practical approach in most climates is to use propane or wood for major heating and cooking loads, size your batteries for approximately two days of autonomy, and use the generator as planned backup infrastructure.
What does the 30-year panel warranty actually cover, and what else is warranted on these systems?
The 550W bifacial panels include a 30-year power warranty, which guarantees that their output will remain above a specified percentage of their original rated production throughout the warranty period. Quality bifacial glass-glass panels typically experience gradual degradation of less than 0.5% per year, making this a meaningful long-term performance commitment.
Warranty coverage for the inverters and batteries varies by component. If warranty terms are an important part of your buying decision, contact us before ordering and we will explain the current coverage for each piece of equipment included in your package.
Maintenance is generally minimal. OMO Stack batteries include Bluetooth monitoring so you can check charge levels and system health from your phone, and LiFePO4 batteries do not require watering or equalization like traditional lead-acid battery banks. Keeping the panels clean and periodically checking your system monitoring are typically the main maintenance tasks required.
