For a well-managed cabin or small off-grid structure, yes. A 2.2kW array produces around 9,900 watt-hours per day at 4.5 peak sun hours — roughly double what the 1kW kits deliver. At this size you can run a full-size refrigerator and chest freezer simultaneously, a washing machine a few times a week, lights, fans, devices, and a modest well pump. Electric water heaters, central HVAC, or large submersible well pumps push toward the 4–6kW range.
It comes down to two things: whether you need 240V power, and how much you want to grow the system later. The 3kW OMO inverter handles standard 120V loads well and is the most affordable entry point. If your structure has 240V wiring, or if you plan to run a submersible pump, a mini-split, or split-phase tools, you need one of the 240V inverter options: the AIMS 4kW, Sol-Ark 5K, or EG4 6000XP kits. Customers who pick a 120V-only inverter for a 240V structure almost always come back for an upgrade.
The Independence kit is an all-in-one portable power station with the battery, inverter, and MPPT controller integrated into a single unit on casters, paired with four 550W bifacial panels — no separate component wiring required. It's the right choice if you want the fastest path to power, if your setup is temporary or moves around, or if you want a system that doubles as emergency home backup. It's not the right choice if you plan to add batteries over time, run 240V loads, or build toward a larger permanent system.
A single 5.12kWh or 5.3kWh lithium battery works if your daily load is around 3–4 kWh. It covers overnight use with a modest cushion going into the next morning. If your daily load is closer to 5–7 kWh, or you want real cloudy-day autonomy, plan for 10kWh or more. The stackable OMO battery kits let you build to 10, 15, or 20kWh without swapping the inverter.
If this system connects to a structure's wiring, plan to pull a permit in most areas. Skipping this creates problems on insurance claims and when selling the property. On installation: a homeowner with basic wiring experience can handle this — components are pre-matched and kits ship with manuals. Mounting is typically the most labor-intensive part.
