If you're visiting a cabin on weekends only, 3kW is likely more than you need. If you're living there full time, this is where the math starts to work comfortably.
The inverter size determines how much power you can draw at any given moment, not how much solar you have. A 12kW inverter means your system can handle large simultaneous loads and surge demands even when solar production is modest. This matters with high-startup loads like a well pump, mini-split compressor, or power tools that spike on startup. On a good sun day, a 3.3kW array can run a unit in that range during daylight while still charging batteries. Running it through the night depends on your battery bank — kits with 10kWh or more give you a realistic path to overnight cooling; kits with only 5kWh will struggle. Both options in this collection use Iron Ridge hardware. Roof mount works well with a south-facing roof with good pitch, minimal shading, and limited ground space — it keeps the array out of the way and requires less trenching.
